With word and brush
Idea to create comic books to tell parents and their children about the problem of sexual abuse, solicitation, sexual exploitation came to my mind a long time ago. I’m very happy that I could make it come true. Here is my first comic book “Mila’s Story” that was created together with Anna Salyanova, an outstanding illustrator, and translated into 5 languages with the help of volunteer translators: Alyona Hodson, Yana Roy, Oxana Mishkeeva, Oxana Teleguz, Margarita Karlsson.

We translated comic books into different languages to show that children from different countries speaking different languages face the same problems. Offenders all over the world use the same strategies to get children in sexual exploitation. Our project is another opportunity for parents to show their children comic books and to discuss critical safety rules:
  • not to send personal photos in underwear (let alone without it),
  • the unknown on the Internet is not the person he claims to be.
Show this comic book to your child, tell him about these rules and ask him whether he has ever been in such situation.

Send the link to this project to your friends, colleagues to make more people know about it.

It's important! When sharing this project with other people we ask you to share the link not a file. By doing so we are able to count the number of loadings and social effectiveness, it is critically important for our volunteers and for the development of project: https://e.mezhova.me/with-word-and-brush

I’ve been helping children-victims of sexual abuse for more than 10 years and each new case–a true tragedy. I started telling parents about this issue to prevent it. Soon I realized that very simple and effective mechanisms are needed to make it possible for parents to discuss this topic with their children. This is the way my books came to light. I had this idea to make comic books a long time ago but I could not find those who would make this idea come true. Finally, it happened!

I proudly present you my project!

I decided to join this project because I have a daughter and I can imagine very well how the world will be looking like in the future if I didn’t join this project. It’s quixotic to believe that one comic book will change the world but I’m glad to make my small contribution. One month before receiving your letter I was in the park with my daughter and a man was tracing us, so your letter was like a sign for me. I couldn’t stand back. I think it’s my mission.
  • Alyona Hodson

    volunteer translator

I just do my humble work like other volunteers but every little bit helps. Anna helps children. Let this world be better and safer for children.
  • Yana Roy

As a mother I think that access to such information is utterly important for adolescents. Sometimes adolescence makes it difficult for parents-children dialogue. I’m happy to be a part of this great project.

  • Oxana Mishkeeva

    volunteer translator

As a mother I care about the safety of my own and somebody else's children. I want to make my own contribution to our great mission to protect children against crime. Unfortunately, crime rate is growing and it causes concerns. I believe that together we will be able to help new generation to master digital literacy, to protect our rights and ensure our safety.
Сaution is the parent of safety!

Once you get it and you will never stand back. Children in trouble need the help of adults who protect them and prevent such crimes.

More volunteers — more protected children.

For me it is important to inform children about the risks of possible pressure and textortion. I also have children and I believe that we are responsible for the future of our children.

It is sad that there are adults who hurt children very badly… Adults are the only one to protect, love and take care of children. I’m glad to be a part of this project.

Let be the change we want to see the world.
